In spring 2001 a milestone was reached with the founding of the Fibre Metal Laminate Centre of Competence in Delft, The Netherlands. This independent foundation was started as a response to the rapid development of the Fibre Metal Laminate Glare® in aerospace industry. Main driver was of course the application of Glare® in a large quantity on the new flagship of Airbus, the twin-deck Airbus A380. Glare® panels with a total area of about 450 m2 will be used in the upper fuselage of each aircraft. A major achievement after numerous years of work performed by experts of research institutes, university and industry in The Netherlands. The mission of the FMLC is to develop Fibre Metal Laminates fot a wide range of applications and support customers world-wide in engineering and processing Fibre Metal Laminates into their products.

FML materials have a unique set of properties. The alternating structure of metal and fibre layers ensures the potential for tailoring the material to its application. FML has the following advantageous properties:
